EDISON ELEMENTARY WINS SEVEN FALLS CONTEST
By Ashton Converse, Edison journalism student
The Seven Falls announced last week that Edison Elementary School won the chipmunk art
contest held last spring. The Seven Falls held the contest to commemorate its 140 th anniversary.
All third-grade classes in each school located within El Paso County were invited to enter the
contest. Each participating school was provided a plastic chipmunk that the students painted, depicting
historical facts about the Seven Falls. Mrs. Petrie’s Edison students researched the Falls’ history and
included painted details on their chipmunk based on their study. They decided to name their entry “Lily”
after the wood lily that grows at Seven Falls. The students also painted an eagle on Lily to represent the
school’s mascot.
A panel of judges selected the top ten entries, which were placed along the trail leading to the
Seven Falls. Throughout the summer, Seven Falls attendees could view the final entries and vote on their
favorite, which proved to be Edison’s entry.
All ten finalists will be treated to a behind-the-scenes field trip to the Seven Falls on Oct. 3 rd , plus
a sweet treat. Additionally, Edison’s students receive Seven Falls swag bags and a coupon for the entire
student body and staff to visit Seven Falls at their leisure with a 20% off code for up to four family
members per student for a day visit. Lily will be returned to Edison School for everyone to meet.
